Order to distrain the heirs together with the keepers of the heirs of Hamo of Hereford, Jew, for all the debts and chattels formerly of the same Hamo which were owed to him on the day he died, as best they can inquire into this, namely that they will inquire in whose names these debts will have been changed, and they are to distrain by their own bodies, debts and chattels the same heirs and the keepers of the aforesaid heirs if they have received anything of the chattels and goods of the same Hamo according to the share which each one took therefrom, whether greater or lesser, in order to render to the king from day to day the £3,074 12d. that are still in arrears to the king from the third part of the chattels formerly of same Hamo pertaining to the king, and by which Ursellus and Mosse, sons of the same Hamo, and his other heirs made fine with the king for retaining two thirds of the same chattels to their use. They are also to distrain, by their bodies, debts and chattels, all Jews who, by diligent inquisition, they are able to find had changed the aforesaid debts and into whose names the same debts have been changed, for the aforesaid change, in order that all charters thus altered concerning the aforesaid debts and anything whatsoever that they have received therefrom are restored to the king, and they are to punish them according to that for which it shall seem to them they should be punished for such fraud. They are therefore to cause such distraint to be made in this matter so that those monies are paid to the king at the proper time and so that, henceforth, the king need not be disturbed on account of this and need not betake himself to them [the justices]. They are also to cause the third part of the same money to be first deposited (reponi) at Westminster in a certain chest (arch) under the seal of the archdeacon of Westminster and Thomas of Newark in order to do therewith what the king will order to be done, and to cause two thirds thereof to be paid at the Exchequer. The king grants them full power to hand over the aforesaid Mosse on bail as will seem expedient to them so that the aforesaid debt is recovered more quickly, as well as other Jews who they have taken for the same, so that they shall provide such for the king lest, by reason of the detention or delivery of the same Mosse or the other Jews, the payment of the aforesaid debt might be delayed.
